 About Our Magazine

Where did Eumundi Green come from?
Having a local print news medium was voted by members of the Eumundi and district community in community meetings as a priority need in 2004.
The communities are a little out of the ordinary with a very small population (600) in the business centre of Eumundi according to the last census with a closely settled district of thousands and with up to ten thousand visitors a week. Creative and non-productive tension between market influences and local community culture waxes and wanes and there are also challenges with communication without an obvious local newspaper or magazine. We're between Cooroy Rag monthly that is badged as and operates from Cooroy, two Noosa newspapers and a major Sunshine Coast daily that is coastal and not very local community in its focus; and of course we're in Maroochy Shire but the majority of residents say they prefer to look to Noosa Shire.
There is considerable pressure between development and maintaining the physical environment that's valued by many but taken for granted by many others, particularly those who've lived here for a generation or two. And there's some tension also between those forces which are keen to maintain the historic feel of the place and those who articulate the need for modernisation.
Eumundi Green seeks to make a contribution to this special district by responding to this situation in its content focus and by taking an approach that informs, educates and entertains the diverse people whose lives are connected with the district, either by residing here, operating businesses, or as a visitor.
Eumundi Green has a target audience of:
- The 4000+ potential adult readers in the 2000 residences in Eumundi, Verrierdale, Doonan, Belli Park, North Arm and Yandina areas.
- The 400+ business operators in the area and advertisers further a-field who wish to target the readers of Eumundi Green,
- The 8,000 visitors per week to Eumundi and district, principally visitors to Eumundi markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays and Yandina on Saturdays plus stall holders whose income and employment are important factors in the Sunshine Coast economy.
- Visitors to Noosa Information Centre and residents of Cooroy.
We apply a community prism to all of the business arrangements around Eumundi Green. There's no way we can be mistaken for something out of the stable of one of Australia's big publishing houses. Nowhere is this clearer than in our editorial policy.
Why Eumundi Green?
Whilst our community groupings are clearly not homogenous, there is a strong sense that at least one thing is commonly valued amongst locals and visitors: our green trees, the green hills and the green open spaces. The Eumundi town symbol is a memorial fig tree from the main street. Naming the magazine "Eumundi Green" stemmed from taking this common community value as a starting point and building a name and a masthead from there. The title is also a reminder of the village green and friendliness of Eumundi. It's also an unusual name for a non-environmental focused magazine and we like that as we're keen to grab attention, to be different and to avoid all the hackneyed terms. We are, however, leading the way a bit in protecting our environment so except for the cover and centre glossy pages, our magazine is printed on 100% recycled paper. This costs a little more but leaves more trees intact.
