 Our Communities

Eumundi, Verrierdale, Doonan and Belli Park share the same 4562 postcode address and the history of their development is a shared one. Much of the area was covered with dense 'scrub' until the 1880s. Timber-getting, fruit-growing and dairying were the early industries across all of the communities.
Eumundi became the railhead in 1891 and with that the business centre developed. Initially the railway station at Eumundi was to be called "Eerwah". However, this was thought by the railway authorities to be too much like "Beerwah", further south. It is thought that the name Eumundi is derived from a local Kabi Kabi warrior's name 'Huon Mundy'.
Agricultural pursuits remain important industries today for the communities. However, in 1979, the first Eumundi market was held and in time the markets and the support services they spawned have shaped the local economy and social life markedly.
Today the area attracts thousands of visitors each week, principally for the markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but also for the heritage appeal of Eumundi and the natural beauty of the surrounding Sunshine Coast areas. Many visitors have chosen to settle on acres around Eumundi and join with locals in enjoying the history, relaxed ambience, friendly pubs, art galleries, restaurants and quirky shops that are the story of Eumundi.
